City Chic Nuptials: Pre-Ceremony

At last we return to your regularly scheduled recaps!  Last we left off, we were leaving for church.  It was a beautiful day and I was so ready to get married!

Guests were beginning to arrive…

My pomanders were set out…

The ring bearer’s pillow and the tissue packets were ready…

…and some programs were set out for our wedding party.

Meanwhile, the boys had already arrived at church and were hanging out in the atrium.

Scherm0258LWait a second.  Count those groomsmen.  I see one, two, three, four…where was groomsmen #5?

Scherm0256LNope, that’s not him.

Scherm0254LHe’s not here, either (though that freakin’ cute ring bearer is!).

Scherm0275LThe missing groomsman, on the left, holding out his tin of Altoids.

There he is!  As it turns out, our fifth groomsman, a friend we like to call Guido (yes, he is as inappropriate as that nickname implies) celebrated our rehearsal dinner a little too hard.  He stayed out until past bar time, got back to his hotel room and turned off his phone AND his alarm.  He woke up at 2:15pm when he was supposed to have been at the hotel with the rest of the guys at 12:30pm.  He quickly threw on his tux and PHYSICALLY RAN from his hotel downtown up to the Cathedral (a distance of about 2 miles or so).  He arrived at the church at 2:50pm for a ceremony start time of 3:00pm, with one shoe on and no shoelaces (which has now become a long running joke with us.  Every time we’ve seen him since the wedding, we have brought him a pair of shoelaces).

At the time, I had no idea any of this was going on.
I didn’t hear about it until after the ceremony, thankfully.  Our friends were AMAZING and had a contingency plan all worked out had he not shown up (one of our ushers would have stepped in as groomsmen and one of our other friends who was just attending the wedding would have stepped in as usher).  Truth be told, I wasn’t mad about the situation, but that’s because I was so blissed out that day I didn’t really care about anything.  Our friends were plenty mad for us and I love that they just stepped in and took care of the problem.  They are pretty amazing peeps!

[Please note:  that tin of Altoids he is holding in his hand up there?  He ate the ENTIRE thing before our ceremony.  That’s how epic his partying had been.]

So what else was happening while this was going on?

Our flower girl was hanging out.

The guests were being seated…

…while members of the wedding party started to corral in the back.

The ushers hung out…

And I took a last quick swipe of lipstick and a look in the mirror.

Roger, the Sacristan, led me to my waiting spot…

And then it was almost go time.

Up next, we finally head down the aisle!

Missed something?
First I got a mani-pedi with my sister, then I cried.
Next, we headed to church to rehearse.
After that, we had a fiesta-themed rehearsal dinner at a local restaurant.

In the morning, we went to the salon to get our hair done.
Meanwhile, the guys went to a chili contest and got ready at the hotel.
Back in my hotel room, the girls got ready.
Then, I put on my dress and officially became a bride.

Next, we headed to church!

  2. I can’t believe he was there only 10 minutes before your ceremony! But yes, props to your friends for taking care of everything so flawlessly. Also, that last picture of you in your “hiding spot” before the ceremony gave me goosebumps — made me remember how I felt when I was “hiding” before our ceremony started!

  3. The Bum that Almost Ruined Everything

I don’t see my picture on here. WTF. I mean, I was wearing a Packers jacket and dropped several “F-bombs,” 2 of the brides favorite things.

Ah, yes, the Bum Who Almost Ruined Everything. That’s a whole ‘nother story! Big props to our Usher TD for keeping him out of the church when he tried to come in right before the ceremony. 🙂

  5. It was gorgeous out on your wedding day. Love the photos of you right before the ceremony began. 🙂
