The Shoe Saga: A Happy Ending!

Last we left off, I had found a lovely pair of wedding shoes that didn’t fit quite right.  I tried everything, but ultimately decided to wait out Zappos to see if, magically, the warehouse would get more shoes in that were in my correct size, so I could exchange.   Well, guess what?!  This weekend, they did!

I woke up Sunday morning and pitter-pattered into the kitchen to make some tea.  While I waited for the water to heat, I checked my email…and lo and behold, there was a brand new email from Zappos telling me they had the lovely Stuart Weitzman Pomposo shoes in my size!

I freaked out a little bit and grabbed my phone.  Ten minutes later, a pair of size 8 satin ruby Pomposos were on my way…and $109 was on its way back to my bank account, thanks to the fact that the shoes are now on sale!  Woowoo!!

I waited with baited breath for two whole days…and on Tuesday, they arrived:

Hello, lovers!

Even our cat, CC, was excited:

Holding my breath, I opened the box to reveal:
Shoes 003
Sigh.  So lovely, so perfect…but would they fit?

Let’s do a quick gap comparison:

NO GAP!!!  Ok, so I know the angle is different, but I am trying to convey that the size 8s fit PERFECTLY.

Hooray…the Shoe Saga is no more!

Did you have difficulty with a part of your wedding attire?

The Shoe Saga, Continued

Yes, my friends, it has turned into a saga.  Where did we last leave off?  Ah yes, I was anxiously awaiting the arrival of my Heavenly Heelz, to see if they would help with sizing.  At last, they arrived…and if you follow me on Twitter, you know the moral of this story:

They helped a bit, but not quite enough.

Le sigh.

I think if I used TWO sets of Heavenly Heelz in each shoe, they would be a good fit…but there would still be a gap in the back.

You see, the Heavenly Heelz do help keep your foot in the shoe and help the shoe to fit nicely to your foot, but they don’t magically erase any gaps caused by sizing, if you get my drift.  And this really bothers me.  I feel like people will look at my shoes and say, “Those don’t fit!”  I’m not sure why I care what others will think.  I think it’s because the  shoes were really expensive for me and I am embarrassed that I spent so much money on an item that doesn’t fit me right.  Regardless, this shoe saga has left me with two important lessons:

1) Always order shoes in the size you know.  Go with your gut, even if the product reviews say otherwise.  I ordered these shoes a half size up because that seemed to be the general consensus on Zappos’ site.  Wrong.  A size 8, I have decided now, would fit me just perfectly.

2) Regardless, I AM WEARING THESE SHOES!  I just have to.  Seriously, I love them and I cannot imagine wearing any other shoes.  Yes, I feel a bit stupid for having an expensive pair of shoes that don’t fit quite correctly, but if I have to, I’ll get over that.

With that being said, I am currently in a state of shoe limbo.  Zappos has a fabulous 365 day return policy.  The shoes are currently packaged up and sitting in their box in our room.   If necessary, I can always return them before the wedding.  Until then, I am stalking the Zappos site to see if any 8s will come up.  If they do, I will immediately make an exchange…no harm, no foul!  I am pretty sure there is a good chance this will happen, so for now, I just have to be patient.

Bonus:  Zappos is having a huge holiday sale and the Pomposo shoes are currently only available in sizes 4, 7, 10, and 11.  Since I know how popular these shoes are, I am betting that shortly after the new year they will have a bunch more in stock and I can make my exchange!

Keep your fingers crossed for me…

The Tale of the Red Shoes

Once upon a time, there was a girl who didn’t love shoes.  Shocking, I know.  One day, while said girl was browsing the world wide interwebs, she came across a fabulous pair of shoes.  She immediately fell in love with them, but alas, they were not to be found in her size!

Said girl was sad, but  moved on, quietly stalking her beloved shoes on a weekly basis.  One day, she stumbled across the website that sold her lovely shoes (yes, she was no referring to them as hers) and found that they were available in her size!  So she hemmed and hawed for a few, and then she bought them.  And when they came, they were everything she thought they would be…

002        003

They looked wonderful on her feet…(please ignore my gross marathon toenail on my left foot!)

…and they felt wonderful on her feet.  Except they didn’t quite fit:

What was our poor girl to do?  She tweeted to her wonderful internet friends about her dilemma, phoned her lovely real-life friends about her dilemma, and tried to make an exchange with the company…but alas!  The shoes were not available in the next half size down, and the girl wasn’t sure that the next half size down would even fit.  Luckily, a nice internet friend came to the rescue and recommended a product called Heavenly Heelz from a company called Foot Petals. Would they work?  Could this really be the answer our girl was looking for?

Heavenly Heelz

Please note that the gap in the picture above looks admittedly MUCH larger than it really is (I zoomed in pretty big time when taking these shots).  The gap is LESS than half a size, and it is bigger on my left foot than it is on my right (makes sense, since most people have one dominant side of their body that’s a little bigger).  Thanks to Em, I ordered a pair of Heavenly Heelz to see if this would perhaps lessen the gap.  It is my last ditch effort on these shoes—I love them sooooo much and I want to wear them for the wedding so badly, but I also want them to fit correctly!  There’s no guarantee that Zappos will have any more 8s any time before the wedding, so I am really hoping the inserts will take care of the problem, since I am not even guaranteed to have the 8s fit.  So, will the Heavenly Heelz work?  They should be here in a few days, so stay tuned!

My First Major Purchase

Remember this inspiration board I made awhile back, when we were working out our color palette?

Can you guess what my favorite part about this inspiration board was?

…if you guessed those shoes, you guessed right!  If you’ll remember, I lamented about those shoes awhile back.  Oh how I loved them, but oh, how Zappos only had them in random sizes!

NOT SO, my friends, NOT SO!  I randomly checked the Zappos site yesterday (you know, just to check in on those beautiful shoes…) and guess what?!  They had my lovely Stuart Weitzman’s in the correct size I need.

I hemmed and hawed for about an hour and then I bit the bullet.  I bought them!  Don’t laugh, but this is the most money I have ever spent on a pair of shoes, so I still sort of have some sticker shock.  (I told you I’m not a shoe girl, so don’t go holding that against me!)  However, I think they are worth it.  They are quality shoes that I am going to wear on my WEDDING DAY (!!)  and I know I will wear them beyond as well.  Even though they’re bright red, I think they will be quite versatile in my wardrobe (which consists of a lot of neutrals—mainly white, brown, gray and black.  As my sister would say, I could use a little color sometimes!).   Yay!  I am so excited and can’t wait to get them!!  They won’t be here in time for dress shopping on Saturday, but that’s ok…because soon enough I WILL have these lovelies in hand!

So, I made my first major wedding related purchase.  Hooray!   Now it’s your turn:  what was your first big purchase for the big day?

My Latest Must-Have

I’m just going to go ahead and say it…I’m not a shoe girl.  I’m not even a fashion girl, really.  Sure, I like fashion, I like fashion magazines, I like beautiful clothes and bags and all of that.  Heck, my love for Carrie Bradshaw is practically on the worshipful side.  But anyone who knows me will tell you that, as much as I might like to be, I’m just not that fashionista gal.  My day to day “uniform” is more t-shirts and jeans than heels and pencil skirts.  Which is why it is surprising then, that my latest wedding obsession is not a dress, or an invitation set, or even jewelry.  No, it’s a pair of shoes.

I want you, I need you, I have to have you.

And by you, I mean THESE:

DIVINE.  Sigh.  They are Stuart Weitzman and they. are. LOVELY!

See how WONDERFUL they look as bridal shoes?

SW2  (Source)

Problem:  They are expensive.  My thoughts on this, however, are that you only get married once and I can tell you that I would love—and wear!—these shoes forever.
Bigger Problem:  They are POPULAR, which means they are only available from Zappo’s in sizes 5.5, 7.5, and 11.  What the?!

So, dear readers, tell me:  what are your tips for nailing down a must-have-but-it’s-in-high-demand piece of merchandise?  Anybody have any idea where else I can buy these shoes?
