My Best Friend’s Wedding: Shower, Part 3

Ok, so now that you’ve seen the invitations and the details, it’s time to show you how it all came together on the day of the shower.  I am proud to say that it was a resounding success!

We had the shower at a local park, in their community room.  It worked perfectly for the 40 or so women we had attend the shower!  Some examples of the centerpieces…I bought all the flowers at Trader Joe’s, and then at the end of the day, all of the hosts + the bride were able to take an arrangement home.

The community room even had its own kitchen, so that is where we set up the food.

For the main dish, we offered sandwiches.  Guests had a choice between:

or

We also made signs for all the side dishes.  We had things like fruit, veggies, coleslaw, pasta salad, and of course:

The spice basket!  It was filled to the brim and then some.  We had every guest bring their favorite spice to share with the bride.

Party favors!  Everything was bee or honey themed, and we went all out.  Burt’s Bees chapsticks, honeydew melon candles, Honey Nut Cheerios, Honey Buns snack treats, mini jars of honey, bee-shaped notepads, bee-shaped nail files…every guest got to take one home.  I wish I had gotten a better close-up on these.  They had cute tags that matched the invites and said “Thank You!”

And of course, dessert!  Beehive cupcakes.

Michelle Bridal Shower 025

Aren’t they so freakin’ adorable?!

The shower was a really fun time.  We played two short games, but otherwise, it was mostly mix and mingle.  Everyone ate lunch and then B opened her gifts…and that was about it.  It was a really lovely time.  Here is the beautiful bride with all of her shower hosts:

Stay tuned!  Next up, I plan the Bachelorette Party.

What was your bridal shower like?  Have you ever had to plan one?

My Best Friend’s Wedding: Shower, Part Two

Read part one here!

We had Michelle’s shower this past Sunday and it was a resounding success!  Time to show you some of the details that really helped make the event.

Remember her invites?  I made all of the paper products for the shower to match the invitation suite.

We had nametags for the bridesmaids and mothers…

Michelle Bridal Shower 013

These were made with cardstock, my trusty ol’ Xyron,
and some pins + a glue gun.  Easy peasy!

…and a basket for the silverware.

I also made tags for the food.  We had some that attached to these Bee stands (found at Hobby Lobby):

And some that were just folded cardstock:Michelle Bridal Shower 017

I made a gift list for easy recording of all the gifts she received.  It looked like this:

Michelle Bridal Shower 020

…and had a list of all of the RSVPed guests.  I also included a few extra spaces for guests who didn’t RSVP but might have sent a gift or shown up anyways.  The gift list had columns to write down the gifts, if they came with a card, giftcard, or any money, and a place for Michelle to check off when she sends the Thank Yous.  It also had space on page two for any miscellaneous notes!Michelle Bridal Shower 019

In terms of décor, you’ll see a lot of that in my next post…but I did want to give special mention to the centerpieces.  I got these cylindrical vases at the Dollar Store and used ribbons to spice ‘em up a bit!Michelle Bridal Shower 001

There were three different options for ribbons.  Big:Michelle Bridal Shower 002

And Little!

I bought fresh flowers at Trader Joe’s on the morning of the shower and they turned out lovely.  Sneak peek:

More to come this week!  Stay tuned.

My Best Friend’s Wedding: Shower, Part One

Thus begins a new series here on Little Miss Wedding Planner:  My Best Friend’s Wedding!

My BFF Michelle is getting married this year (whoop, whoop!) and I am her maid matron of honor.  So, you’ll be getting a behind the scenes sneak peek at my life as a bridesmaid.  First up, planning her shower!

[Note:  Michelle, on the off chance you are reading this post, please stop now.  I want there to be a few surprises for you!]

We decided to go with a “Bee” theme because that’s Michelle’s nickname. In fact, I don’t even call her Michelle, so from here on in, she’ll be known as B.  It all started back when I first met her.  Her little sister, Emily, was only three at the time, and she couldn’t say “Michelle.”  She always called her “Bichelle.”  It caught on with some of our friends, and from there it spiraled from Bichelle to B-chelle (emphasizing the B part), and then just to B.  Now we call her Beezus or B and I can’t imagine calling her anything else!

Anyways, back to the shower.  The bridesmaids and I plus B’s mom and future mother-in-law are all planning it. As I’ve said, we decided to go with a “bee” theme to commemorate her nickname.  I sent the invitations out this week and thought you might like to see how they turned out!

031

I designed everything in Word using fonts from Dafont.com, then printed them out on regular computer paper.

032

Then I backed them all in black cardstock, popped them in envelopes, and away they went!

033

B’s mother-in-law had suggested having each guest bring their favorite spice for B. We thought it was a great idea!  I am planning to put together a cute basket for all of the guests to drop their spices in so she can easily take them all home with her.

Address label front:

003

And back:

034

I used double-sided tape to attach these labels and so far, no problems from the post office that I’ve heard of.

I also designed some labels for the food table at the shower that will match the invites, plus a few other surprises to tie everything together. I can’t wait to show you how it all turns out!

Have you ever planned a shower?  Share some tips and ideas in the comments!

Shower & Bachelorette Extravaganza, Part Three

Ok, ok…SOME of you are being a BIT impatient about the bachelorette party recap [read:  this post is for you, Emily!  Haha!].   So, after the shower was over, we headed to dinner at a local brewery.

If any of you know me at all, you know that while I love wine, I am a beer-drinkin’ gal at heart.  Dinner at a brewery was perfect for me!  We had good beer and good food, and basically spent a lot of the time socializing and talking.  I received my Bachelorette crown:

Shower & Bachelorette Party 005

And opened some, ahem, naughty gifts.

Opening Naughty Gifts! Check out Liz’s face to the right of me.  I don’t know what I just opened but I like to imagine it might have been the Kama Sutra book complete with PHOTOGRAPHED demonstrations.

A little dinner, a little cake, and a car ride downtown with old school Britney Spears blaring, and we arrived at another one of my favorite places, the Milwaukee Ale House.  Again with the good beer!  We socialized there for awhile, then headed to my favorite bar, 5th Ward Pub & Grill.  I used to work there and I am still friends with everyone (and still hang out there regularly).  It was a BLAST blaring the juke box and dancing the night away.

Dancing Ahem…I am clearly very serious about whatever move I was doing right then. HA!

After that we made a quick stop at La Cage, a gay dance club across the street.  It was SO MUCH FUN…and let’s just say that there might have been a bit of cage dancing in there for me.  Sorry, no pictures of that—the professional in me just won’t let them see the light of day.

Once we were danced out, everyone dispersed.  I headed home with my sister, my cousin, and my bridesmaid Beezus, where we ate popcorn and rehashed the whole night with Dr. Groomy.  I woke in the morning for brunch, but then took sporadic naps throughout the day.  I didn’t feel too hungover, but I was soooo tired!

All in all, it was an AMAZING weekend.  I am so, so lucky to have such great friends and family.  Thank you guys so much again—I love you all!

Shower & Bachelorette Extravaganza, Part Two

Last we left off, my sister and I had a relaxing morning complete with massages and delicious brunch.  Soon, it was time to head to the shower!

The shower was held at a local hotel that was a good mid-point for both the guests from Milwaukee and the guests from Madison.  We arrived right before the shower was to start, so most of the guests were there already.  Here was the beautiful spread:

Table Settings Table Settings:  Matched our wedding colors!  The paddles with the As you see in front of the place settings were for a really fun trivia game we played.  The white sheets of paper were a wedding crossword puzzle all about me and Dr. Groomy that my bridesmaid KDoc created!

Food Spread  The Food Spread.  The girls went with hors d’eourves type foods, since they also planned a dinner out for me later on in the day.  All of the food (and punch! yum!) was so delicious!

Cake! The Cake.  Recognize anything about it?  Bridesmaid Michelle had it designed to go with our Rehearsal Dinner theme and centerpieces
Awesome, no?  It was SO delicious.

Once all the guests had arrived, we mixed and mingled…and ate and played a few games too!  I took some time to snap pictures with as many people as I could:

This is most of the women from my Mom’s side of the family.
Front Row:  Aunt Kathy, Cousin Brittany, Cousin Brooke, Aunt Teresa
Back Row:  MOH (and sister) Ali, Me, Mom, Personal Attendant (and Cousin) Erin, Grandma

Jordan & Amy
This is me and my friend Jordan.  She hates this photo but I think it’s darling.  She’s one of our readers!

Jeanne & Amy
Old College Roommate Jeanne.  We recently reconnected in the last year or so, and it’s been great having her in my life again!

Siewicz & Amy
Good Friend Siewicz (a nickname based off her incredibly long and difficult to pronounce last name).  She flew all the way from North Carolina to be here (she attended both my shower and her 10 year high school reunion on this day).

The one thing I forgot was getting a picture with all of my bridesmaids. So there’s a quick tip:  make sure you do that!  They all looked so lovely and I really regret and wish I would have remembered to capture that.

After games, food, and talk, I got to opening some gifts!  My friends and family were so generous.  I can’t wait to use everything we received!

Then, it was time to wrap things up.  I made sure to thank everyone, and then it was time to head to dinner!  Stay tuned for part three!

Shower & Bachelorette Extravaganza, Part One

Last weekend was my shower and bachelorette party, thrown for me by my lovely bridesmaids.  Seriously, guys?  They BLEW ME AWAY.  It was one of the most special days I have ever had and I felt truly so blessed and lucky and LOVED.  It was amazing.

I know some of you have been waiting for these recaps for awhile (Hi, Megan!!), so I’m going to do them in three parts.  There is so much about the day that I want to remember, and I want to make sure to do it all justice!  So here we go with part one!

My lovely maid of honor, my sister Ali, came down on Friday night to hang out and get ready for the weekend.  We made homemade pizzas (this recipe is amazing!), watched Wedding Crashers and worked on a few wedding projects.  It was a nice way to relax before the big day on Saturday!

017
One of the projects we worked on…those damn pomanders!

Saturday morning, we woke up bright and early, had some coffee, and I was treated to my first suprise of the day:  massages at an east side spa!  Both Ali and I got a 30 minute massage.  It was soooooo nice!  I am definitely going to get another massage before the wedding—I didn’t realize how tense I was until the massage therapist started working on my back!

After our massages, we went to brunch at one of my favorite restaurants.  Of course, there was this:

Shower & Bachelorette Party 001
Mojito for her, White Sangria for me

We didn’t want to eat too much as we knew there would be tons of yummy food at the shower, so we split a fruit plate doused with lavender honey (um, divine!) and the black bean cakes, which came with poached eggs, queso fresco and a green salsa on top.  It was so delicious!

Shower & Bachelorette Party 002

Shower & Bachelorette Party 003

And here we are after finishing up brunch.  We sat outside on the patio and it was such a great time to catch up with my little sister!

Shower & Bachelorette Party 004
Don’t we look so greasy relaxed after our massages?!

After that, we went home and got ready for the day.  Stay tuned for parts two and three…and here’s a preview:

Shower & Bachelorette Party 005

Tell me about your pre-wedding fun!  What did you do to relax before the big events?

All pictures are mine.  Don’t steal ‘em!

I Am The Luckiest

bride ever!  Seriously…our family and friends are so amazing and I feel so blessed.  Case in point?  Last night, Dr. Groomy’s lady coworkers from the old pharmacy he used to work at threw me a dinner shower at McCormick & Schmick’s.  It was SO unexpected and SO nice of them!  We had a grand ol’ time, sipping wine, eating delicious food, and chatting & gossiping about all things work, wedding, and life!

When we sat down at our table, a surprise on the menu was one of the first things I noticed.  Can you spot it?

Mc&Schmicks Shower 001

They had the restaurant put a congratulations to us on it!  It was SO COOL.  I took all of the menus home as keepsakes.  I’m thinking about making a scrapbook after the wedding of all of the cards and things we received, so this is definitely getting a prominent place!

After we ate all of our delicious food, I opened the gifts.  They were so generous to me!

A Bath & Body Works set…

A collection of their favorite recipes…

Mc&Schmicks Shower 005 And a little something for Dr. Groomy, maybe? HA!

It was such a fun night and I am so lucky…so, so lucky.  Here we all are at the end of the evening:

Back Row: Debbie, Wendy

The ladies are big blog readers too, so THANK YOU SO MUCH, LADIES!  I had such a nice time and Dr. Groomy & I can’t wait to celebrate with you all at the wedding.

Did you have any showers that you weren’t expecting?
